In the previous news posting, now quite old as it was done at the time of recruiting, I said that our goal was to clear Zul'Aman before Wrath.

We had a few good runs a couple of months back but couldn't quite get Malacrass and then we lost steam. Understandable... by then, many guilds weren't raiding at all. We missed about 2 weeks total, honestly not bad for a casual guild who has been raiding twice a week since March-ish.

Thanks to the player buffs and the boss nerfs in 3.0.2, we killed Zul'jin tonight. Like I said, I think we would've done it before if we could've kept the core focused.

But tonight we also got all four timers. No way in hell any guild not wearing T6 did that before 3.0.2. We had less than a minute to spare on the fourth one, but we did it!

Good job everyone-- and I do mean everyone, even those not online. We're well positioned for Wrath's 10-man raids as a friendly casual guild that actually manages to get stuff done.

Oh, and this isn't farewell until 11/13. Not at all! Come on out every Tuesday and Wednesday to grab your piece of TBC history. Smile

I posted this message on the Steamwheedle realm forums. Check it out (and maybe bump it once or twice a day)!

The Ugly Future is looking for a few good players!

We have a smallish, happy guild. We get along, everyone knows each other by their first name, and we have very little drama. Most of the guild is a network of friends, friends-of-friends, and co-workers and it is a key part of our mature and easygoing atmosphere.

The reason we are looking to recruit is that we come up short every so often of 10 raiding-ready characters, which leaves 8-9 people in the lurch and bummed. We can clear Karazhan. We can make progress in Zul'Aman. But we can't do that if we don't have 10 folks. It is summertime and somewhere around 4-6 months before the expansion so we do know that a lot of folks are casual or doing other things besides WoW. However we still have a pretty active and interested core.

We raid on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9:30 PM Server Time (Eastern). Throughout the rest of the week, typically on a Friday or Monday night, we could have an optional raid if people are online and interested but Tuesday and Wednesday are our only scheduled raids, and all that should be guaranteed/expected.

If someone wants to raid but those days and times do not work, this honestly is probably not the guild for them.

We did Wed & Fri for a while and it was spotty at best. We would change if a large majority was in favor of it, but we think that Tuesday and Wednesday are the right days for the majority of our current raiding crew.

We require only the following:
Ventrilo -- we have a server and you need to listen, speaking is optional.
Omen
BigWigs
Decursive
Ora2
Some form of raid frame addon is suggested but not required-- Many members use Grid.

We follow loot priority based on the lists at http://www.wow-loot.com because it is objective and (relatively) static. No DKP, we just /roll. (Caveat: we may use DKP in the expansion.)

We have a nice forum at http://www.koboldcompany.com -- World of Warcraft forum. The gaming group does more than WoW, so the forums aren't just about WoW.

We have a few alts that are raid quality so we have some flexibility in roles, but since you probably expect me to write something here about what we are recruiting, I will take a stab at that:

- Need to be age 18+ and mature. You will see some swearing in guild chat and hear it sometimes on Vent, but you will not see anyone being cussed out or yelled at. We don't do the yelling thing but of course the Raid Leader sometimes needs a firm hand to keep things moving.
- Our goal is clearing Zul'Aman. If we do that way before the expansion we may find cooperative partner guilds to do 25 man. We're not opposed to growing membership up to 25 man content but we aren't exactly trying to do that, either.
- We'll also keep working Karazhan. New recruits, alts, and easy badges.
- You should be level 70.
- Ideally you are wearing at least level 70 instance blues. Really, http://be.imba.hu should be showing you to be at least halfway through Karazhan.
- We could use a tankadin, but any kind of paladin wouldn't be bad. If you are looking on armory, only one of our level 70 paladins is an active main (a healadin).
- There's room for 1 active tank, but you may off-tank at times. DPS gear is very helpful.
- We could use a shadow priest.
- We could use another rogue.
- We are not nearly as mage-heavy as the armory might imply. Only one of our 70 mages is a main.
- There's room for up to 2 active healers. Our newest 70 priest is currently holy but wouldn't mind being shadow.

What else do we do besides raid?

We have some players who like to PVP. To be honest, historically this is kind of a on-your-own kind of thing but lately we've had some interest in 3-5+ people queuing up at once and it is fun, even though most of us aren't all that geared for pvp. We have some casual arena teams.

We still do 5 man, of course. We don't profess to be a hardcore raiding guild. We have some newer 70s whether mains or alts and they need normal dungeons. We do heroics pretty often for badges and sometimes a player actually needs loot. (No way!)

Oh, and we are pretty excited about all raid areas having a 10 man option in WotLK. Very Happy

Thanks for the read!

Popular Warcraft fan sites and other locations on the internet contain ads that could infect your computer with malware.

http://boards.worldofraids.com/topic-11536-1.html

Scan your computer right now with SpyBot.

If you see popup ads on any site, it is possible that you are infected with a keylogger. They are not picky; they will hijack your WoW account, take credit card numbers, etc. Therefore I've posted this in News even though my source is a WoW-related site.

After you are done, consider turning off scripts in your browser and manually enabling for specific sites that you have to have them by placing those sites (say like your online banking) in trusted sites (IE) or manually enabling scripting (Firefox and others).

I run Firefox with AdBlockPlus and have for years. It blocks ads via an automatically updated blacklist yet still allows scripts and other normal content to run.

First, go to Start > Run, and type regedit.

A window should pop up.
Find: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\

At this point you can click on Favorites > Add to favorites in the menu and add it so you can quickly browse to it in the future.

Now you need to find your network interface. There are probably more than one listed, so check each one. The one where your IP address is listed is what you're looking for. If you can't find it, just select the one with the most values in the right pane.

Now, right click on the right pane and select New > DWORD value. Name it TcpAckFrequency. Right click on this entry, select Modify, and in Value Data field type "1" (no quotes).

Click OK and go to next step.

Now find: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSMQ\Parameters

(If you don't see this, right-click and create the MSMQ and Parameters keys. Or you can install MSMQ via Add/Remove Components)

And again, right click somewhere on the right pane, choose New > DWORD value. Name it TCPNoDelay, right click the entry, select Modify and set a value of 1 again.

Click OK and close the Registry Editor.

REBOOT!
____

If you have Vista you must have SP1 installed for this to work.

http://www.starcraft2.com/

Looks pretty badass on its own as a RTS, but would anyone bet against this having a secondary purpose of testing the waters for a Starcraft MMO? WoW is still extremely strong, but you have to have a plan for the Next Big Thing or else someone else will make it.

Some jackass just tried to post about 'concert tickets' or some nonsence. The board's registration should be bot-proof, but we can't easily stop humans from registering and posting harmful links. I've removed his thread and will be removing him as soon as I find the magic 'ban' button. Very Happy

Harmful links, of course, have content that could install software, crash your machine, or worse depending on your browser, security patch level, and antivirus software. Best bet: DON'T click if you don't know the poster.

Report any suspicious posts, and again please do not click on links from strangers or that look odd. Numbers in the domain name, like 99amazon.com -- not real, just an example-- are usually a good tip that it's bogus.
